Monkeys eat monkeys?! Since when?!

In chapter 7 I was really shocked at the section where Herzog talked about how monkeys eat.  I was under the impression that they eat fruits and nuts, apparently they also eat other monkeys.  This new found knowledge led me to look into the eating habits of monkeys.  This is just some of the interesting stuff I stumbled upon on the internet.

  1. Yes! As horrible as it seems, chimps eating chimps is a common thing. I remember learning about this in my comparative psychology class. The scenario usually plays out with adult chimps versus baby chimps. This is called infanticide. There is still some confusion as to why exactly this happens, but scientists have some ideas. One of these being that male chimps want to keep their lineage going so they will kill baby chimps that are not their own. However, I am not too sure why female chimps would take part in this. It is very clear that the killing is done on purpose.
